Broncos roster cutdown tracker: WR Kendall Hinton among first wave of cuts

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 08:36:00 GMT

The Broncos’ cut down to 53 players and 16 practice squad members is underway.A couple of deadlines to keep in mind: Teams must be down to 53 players by 2 p.m. MDT Tuesday. They can place waiver claims on eligible players until 10 a.m. Wednesday. Denver is fifth in the waiver priority order, so Sean Payton and general manager George Paton have a good chance of landing a player if they like one who gets waived in the coming days.At 10:01 a.m. Wednesday, teams can start filling their 16-man practice squads.More than 1,100 players league-wide will be out of work for at least some time between now and Wednesday. Life in the bubble can be tough.“There’s going to be anxiety and you’re going to have nervousness, but at the end of the day it’s kind of out of our control at this point,” second-year safety Delarrin Turner-Yell told The Post after the Broncos’ 41-0 preseason-closing win over the Los Angeles Rams on Saturday night. “You just have ...

Esteury Ruiz’s milestone stolen bases the lone highlight in Oakland A’s loss at White Sox

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 08:36:00 GMT

Speedster Esteury Ruiz joined an elite list of A’s with 50 stolen bases on Sunday, then quickly picked up stolen base No. 51.But that was the lone highlight for Oakland on Sunday, as the White Sox beat the A’s 6-1 to split the four-game set on the south side of Chicago. After leading off the sixth with a single, Ruiz stole his 50th base of the season off of the first pitch White Sox starter Mike Clevinger threw to Ryan Noda. When Ruiz beat Chicago catcher Yasmani Grandal’s throw to second, he became just the eighth player in A’s franchise history to steal 50 bases in a season, and the first since Rajai Davis swiped 50 bags in 2010.Ruiz didn’t wait long to break his tie with Davis, stealing base No. 51 after Noda popped out and with Zach Gelof at the plate. The stolen bases helped turned Gelof’s deep fly out to left field into a sacrifice fly, scoring Oakland’s only run of the game. The Athletics players who have stolen 50 or more bases in a season are Rickey Henderson (who did so nine ...

Nick Bosa’s absence gives 49ers a break amid roster moves

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 08:36:00 GMT

SANTA CLARA — Nick Bosa’s contract holdout from the 49ers offers a stealth benefit if it drags into Tuesday.Bosa does not count on the current 90-man roster nor will the 49ers need to save him a spot on the initial 53-man list, which is due Tuesday at 1 p.m.Because he did not report when the 49ers opened training camp July 25, Bosa was placed on a reserve list, and he continued to work out at his offseason home in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.That could benefit one bubble player on the roster bubble, such as an injured one who must make the 53-man roster before reverting to Injured Reserve and remaining eligible to play in the coming season. Candidates who fit that profile: tight end Cameron Latu and wide receivers Ray-Ray McCloud and Danny Gray. The 49ers still must cut more than a third of their roster. Aside from Friday’s trade of quarterback Trey Lance to the Dallas Cowboys, staff reductions began Sunday with this unsurprising wave: cornerback Nate Brooks, linebacker Ky...
